Day 8/9/10/11....Not a Fan

So for the past fews days I have been taking a completely different journey than I was expecting. It's really quite nice to have all this extra time to read because I'm not on facebook so much. In three days I've read halfway through The Help (yeah, last one to read it, right?). It's actually a very good book. I didn't think I would like it. I really need to finish it by 5pm Saturday because that's when our awesome family book club is meeting to discuss it. :)

Anyways, that's not really what I want to talk about in this one. On Saturday I went shopping with my sister. We went in Lifeway so I could pick up a CD to put in a basket for our women's ministry basket exchange tonight. (We fill a basket with our favorite things that tell a little bit about us then exchange them with other women) While we were in lifeway I noticed a book I had looked at before was on sale for $5. Usually it's $15 so I kind of had one of those God moments where you go "I think He wants me to do something and He's saying You wouldn't buy it before because you thought it was too expensive and now it's only $5. So what are you going to do? Pass it up again or do what I asked of you?" So I bought it. It has become my morning devotional. There are 14 chapters so over the next 14 days I'm taking a journey to see where God leads me. And let me tell you, so far it's not a fun one because this is the type of book where God speaks to you and tells you all the things you are doing wrong and how you aren't really living according to his will even though you think you are. HEAVY STUFF.

Even though it hasn't been the most fun and uplifting book it has still been AMAZING. It is really making me look at my life in a whole new way and I would like to encourage you to pick up a copy. Have a highlighter handy. You'll need it. I haven't even mentioned the title or anything at this point so here you go:

Not a Fan: Becoming a completely committed follower of Jesus
by Kyle Idleman

More info/purchase info here:
Not a Fan on Amazon
Not a Fan at Lifeway (Still on sale as of today on their website! Not sure about in store)

**Disclaimer: If you do happen to pick up a copy of this book, be ready for a life changer and don't be mad at me for recommending a book that might just make you angry and throw it on the floor a few times before realzing that it's something you've been needed to hear your whole life. Jesus doesn't need fans. Jesus doesn't want fans. He wants FOLLOWERS. And sometimes you have to give up a lot to follow Him. He wants to be your one and only. Not your first one. He doesn't even want someone to be in second place. How do I know this? Well, the Bible and the fact that the author said it and backed it up with scripture. PLEASE, if you buy this book, give it a chance. I've only read a few chapters and it's already changing me.
